Pottery Barn Inspired Art...Halloween Mantle

The other day as I was searching for Halloween decorating ideas and came across this picture from Pottery Barn.

I've been having a hard time coming up with a great fireplace display and just haven't loved what I've come up with so far. The past couple of years it has been the same. While it was nice I was getting tired of it and I was working with a different fireplace this year.

We moved last year and I don't love (infact I despise) my fireplace in this home. It has these crazy gold squares that remind me of the metal studs on one of those chokers.
You know these ones...
and black granite tiles that seriously you could look for constellations it's sooo sparkly! I totally could live with out it! I am still trying to figure out what the interior designer was thinking when she put that stuff up...anyway it is what I have and I need to work with it. So this what I came up with......

I will probably still fiddle with the pumpkins and put something else up there but it's growing on me. I started with a canvas from Michaels and painted it black. I found a skull and cross bones image on Google, printed and cut it out. Then I typed up RIP on Word and cut it out. (Silhouette machine is on my wish list!)Then I simply glued the paper to the black canvas.
Super easy, super cheap and best of all great results!
