The Silhouette Pillow

I am on a pillow making streak..if you know me personally you know that I love pillows and I often change the pillows in my home. Pillows are easy to make, cheap and make a huge difference in your home decor.

This time around I tackled this pillow found by my talented friend, Sarah, from The Yellow Cape Cod and her adorable nursery design board found here.

Isn't this pillow adorable!

So here's what I did. Start with a silhouette of your subject...Here is my 3 year daughter.

Print it out onto freezer paper. I got mine here. I've also used wax paper and it works too..

Cut out the silhouette. Remove the center and discard. Place freezer paper silhouette cut out onto your fabric. Just make sure the shiny side of freezer paper is face down on top of your fabric. Cut your fabric 1 inch larger than your pillow form for the front and for the back add a about 4 to 6 inches longer in width to make an envelope closure. The freezer paper adheres to your fabric so when you paint the inside the paint doesn't bleed through..it's wonderful stuff!

Now that it's all ironed down..you want to paint the inside. Here's mine...

Wait for it to dry. Then peel off the wax paper.

Now back to your cut fabric...the fabric piece that is 4 to 6 inches wider..cut it in half. Iron and hem two sides. Pin front and back of pillow overlapping hemmed edges as done here. ( hemmed edges will face center) Sew and trim edges..turn inside out!

And here she is.....

So cute! Do you happen to know the name of the fabric you used? It's beautiful.
