Home Goods Splurge!

Today I went in for my wonderful glucose test..oh the joys of pregnancy! After drinking the wonderful flat orange soda and getting stabbed in the arm I thought I'd treat myself to a trip to Home Goods! I didn't have anything in mind that I was looking for..which is always a bad thing...right?

At first I had a cute little basket that would have been perfect for little baby clothes in my cart, but then I spied in the corner this turquoise POOF ball! The little basket was quickly put back on the shelf and I hurried over to the POOF. Why in the world would I ever need an adorable POOF...who knows. But I quickly starting listing the reasons why I needed it. Wouldn't it be so cute as a foot rest while breastfeeding in the middle of the night? Or can you imagine this new little baby girl sitting on it when she gets older reading books in the corner of her room? You can can't you? Or am I just going crazy? Anyway...it made it's way into my cart and home! I may have a little explaining to do about this purchase but hopefully playing the pregnancy card will win my hubby over. :)

There she is in all her POOF ball glory!

Have I've gone nuts?

Oh..
Along with some clearance cubes that matched her room perfectly..now I just need her room to get started and to stay away from anything TURQUOISE!

Baby Shower Brunch

This last weekend I had the opportunity to throw a friend a baby shower.

There is nothing sweeter than celebrating the birth of a new baby.

The table all in pink of course!

Diaper Cake

(my littlest thought that was digusting! 3 yrs olds..gotta love them!)

Welcome table..flowers made of little baby socks! So cute!

Do you see them?

Cake pops for dessert and chocolate covered strawberries! Yummy!

Pumpkin Apple muffins, banana nut muffins, bagels and fresh fruit were enjoyed. And those
cute little diaper cups filled with M&M's are actually fabric dipped in parrafin wax..a sweet lady brought those...need to learn how to make those!

Can't wait to see her new baby girl soon to arrive!

The Silhouette Pillow

I am on a pillow making streak..if you know me personally you know that I love pillows and I often change the pillows in my home. Pillows are easy to make, cheap and make a huge difference in your home decor.

This time around I tackled this pillow found by my talented friend, Sarah, from The Yellow Cape Cod and her adorable nursery design board found here.

Isn't this pillow adorable!

So here's what I did. Start with a silhouette of your subject...Here is my 3 year daughter.

Print it out onto freezer paper. I got mine here. I've also used wax paper and it works too..

Cut out the silhouette. Remove the center and discard. Place freezer paper silhouette cut out onto your fabric. Just make sure the shiny side of freezer paper is face down on top of your fabric. Cut your fabric 1 inch larger than your pillow form for the front and for the back add a about 4 to 6 inches longer in width to make an envelope closure. The freezer paper adheres to your fabric so when you paint the inside the paint doesn't bleed through..it's wonderful stuff!

Now that it's all ironed down..you want to paint the inside. Here's mine...

Wait for it to dry. Then peel off the wax paper.

Now back to your cut fabric...the fabric piece that is 4 to 6 inches wider..cut it in half. Iron and hem two sides. Pin front and back of pillow overlapping hemmed edges as done here. ( hemmed edges will face center) Sew and trim edges..turn inside out!

And here she is.....

Urban Outfitter Finds

Just a few items that I came across at Urban Outfitters.
Some great items that would be great for the boy's room: The stacking baskets for between their desks for all the paper clutter that they have from homework! The cool P.E. clock would be awesome on one of their walls.

In the baby's room I'd love to have that turquoise shelf for baskets of baby toys and books! I want it bad! Check out the cute "A"! The turquoise ruffled curtains are pretty cute too! I think I am going batty for turquoise..weird!

Then I spied the ruffled bathroom shower curtain and thought of my friend with 4 girls who wants to redo her bathroom..this would be SO cute! If you haven't had a chance to check out Urban Outfitters they have some really cute or should I say cool stuff.

Love Pillow

Do you remember when I showed you this pillow I wanted to make for the baby's room. (Esty: HoneyPie Design $38.00)

After a little shopping trip to Joann's I scored some turquoise linen fabric 60% off and knew this would be the perfect project for it.

Here's how I did it...

For those of you that don't have a fancy cutter..you can simply print out a word and carefully cut it out. My font is Clementine Sketch.

Once cut out I simply cut it out of the fabric I wantedThen measure your pillow form. I used one that my sister gave me. Thanks sis!

Cut out your fabric (in my case the turquoise linen) about an inch larger on each side for one side of the pillow and about 4 inches larger on two sides on the second piece. You will have on piece for the front and one piece for the back. This larger piece will be cut in half to make an envelope..I love envelope pillows!

Now the piece that was larger cut it in half and iron and hem one side of each section. (You still with me?)
The front piece attach your word on with fabric glue or iron on adhesive..I used fabric glue!

Wait for it to dry! This is hardest part for me..patience!

Now that it is dry, place the front fabric with the wording facing up. Then place the hemmed two pieces right sides together overlapping to fit front fabric with heming facing in or in the middle. Pin and sew around all edges...because you cut it about an inch larger than your pillow you will sew a 1" seam.

Trim your corners.

Turn inside out and stuff your pillow inside..Viola!

A Slow Week and Baby's Room Design...I think!

It's been one of those weeks..you know the ones where you don't want to do much. Maybe it's because I'm pregnant because I'm not usually like this.... I've finally decided (I think) on our little girl's room.

What do you think...on the right side of the design board are different fabric options for curtains..which ones would you choose?

Have a fabulous weekend! I am taking a Photoshop Elements class this weekend and I am SO excited..hoping to share what I've learned!
